Made it through the punk fest

The concert was good last night – but Marc and Brenda and I really learned that we are not as young as we used to be. I shouldn’t say punk crowd – more alternative. The goth crowd were in the 2nd bar down below. What we saw was more what I personally dress like – All Star sneakers, jeans, rock t-shirts. There was one enormously drunk 40-something. We couldn’t figure out whether he was an owner or manager or even an ex-musician of some long defunct punk or rock-abily band. But he was the only extremely intoxicated person there. Given we were the only other older people there, I would have to say that I am quite proud of the 20 somethings who were there. No one was out of hand.

The bands were great – really loud though. My throat hurts today from trying to talk over the music. But the best part is, I didn’t drink too much. I didn’t think I would. It seems I have more control when I’m out – especially if I know I have to drive. We did get home late though – and slept in until 11:00 this morning! Glad I don’t live that life anymore. I’d die!

Back to work-outs. I did 20 minutes of swimming yesterday – 17:44 was my time for 30 lengths (750 meters) so I’m doing well. My biggest problem with swimming is that I go too hard so I have to start learning to slow down a bit. I was a swimmer first so that’s my strength but I have to find that balance between doing well and over doing it before I get on the bike and blow up. The bike was done indoors on my wind trainer. I peddled for an hour – varying the degree of difficulty by changing gears and tension of course. I felt good but I realized that chowing down 10 Wheat Thins covered in cream cheeze and slices from pepperoni sticks was not a good idea. I actually felt the spicy mush sitting in my throat with 10 minutes left. Ick. Lesson learned. I should have just stuck to my favorite, a handful of pistachios.

Oh, that reminds me. I will add another page soon about my nutritional habits for training and for race day. Everybody has different strategies – I have been learning what works and what doesn’t based on my own tum tum.

Anyway, that’s it for today. Yesterday was a good day and today is my day off from working out. I am going to my parents’ place tonight for a belated Easter dinner. This might be a challenge. My parents have a huge wine cellar – fully stocked – and the wine flows freely there. My cousins will be there too and we’re a bunch of Vikings so hopefully I can cap it at a decent hour and go to bed (Marc and I stay overnight at their acreage – no drinking and driving). We have to get up early tomorrow anyway. Our IronMan friends are running the annual St. Albert 10 miler so we want to get out there and give them support – and partake in the massive breakfast feast that happens afterwards!
