Taking a risk for a short run

I couldn’t stand it anymore – I woke up this morning feeling fantastic. Shoulder didn’t seem any worse, or any better, so I decided 20 minutes on the eliptical and 20 minutes on the treadmill would be okay. I forced myself to only go 12 minute miles. It was hell but I’m glad I did. Now I have a cold compress on my shoulder.

Yup – shoulder is achey. While I was running, I would press my right hand on my shoulder and I could feel the muscles jarring and moving – even if I kept the arm still.

I told Marc I guess this injury is like a deep bruise – it takes a few weeks to heal and maybe a month to completely go away. Frustrating but it certainly is testing my patience. Hopefully my patience will reward me.

Tonight we’re going to Wine Fest. It’s a huge wine tasting event. $55 for all the 1 oz tastings you want and a Riedel glass included. Nice. I’m not worried about this one. I’m going to enjoy myself. Like I said, I no longer have a drinking problem that is out of control and consumes my life so I’m not going to avoid events like this. I just have to learn to pace myself. Again, it’s all about balance.

Hopefully I can get some kind of bike in tomorrow – even if I have to bike standing up. If not, well, it wouldn’t hurt me to just relax on a Sunday.
